09/04/2016: Outdoor Worship & Picnic
This year we will be having a
“Labor Day Weekend Outdoor Service and Picnic” on campus
Date: Sunday, September 4, 2016 Time: 11:00 am
Our worship service will be a bit different on this holiday weekend, inviting hands-on participation with local artists and craftspeople. We will bless backpacks for all those returning to school. And for the picnic, everyone is invited to bring a side dish of your choosing and we will bring the fried chicken.
A lot of what we do together is to strengthen our church family, learning to love each other well as Christ has loved us. A lot of what we do together is to reach out in invitation to potential new family members. This Labor Day Weekend is designed to help us reach out to our neighbors whom God so loves. Come join us in a fun way to welcome those whom God sends. And if you cannot join us, please pray for the event, for us and for the people God will send among us.
Jeremiah 18:1-11 (God as Potter)
Psalm 139: 1-4; 11-14a
(God as knitter/weaver)
God, in these scriptures is seen as an artist who is constantly willing to re-work our lives whenever we find ourselves misshapen by our choices or by the impact of the choices of others on our lives; and we are in the good hands of a master artist, fearfully and wonderfully made and remade. God also invites us to be co-creators, fellow artists, with God, to make the world a more beautiful place. We will be asking local artists to provide a teaching experience during the second half of worship as we invite the congregation to explore our artistic side.
