“Seek Ye First”

Matthew 6: 24-34
February 26, 2017

We are thrilled to welcome the Rev. Chuck Blaisdell back to our pulpit where he will conclude our series on the Sermon on the Mount.  A quote from the sermon:  “What I think Jesus is saying (in Matt. 6) is this: although our commitment to Christ is indeed a lifetime one and one that we make with utter sincerity, the reality is that that commitment actually gets lived out every day in the decisions that we make about the next five minutes, the next hour, the rest of the day, the coming week.  And Jesus’ counsel in those moments, those hours, those weeks is this: Seek ye first; try to do what I would do in the next five minutes, the next hour, the coming week…when you ask yourself ‘What would Jesus do in the next five minutes, the next hour, the rest of the day?’ your answer needs to reflect the Jesus who revealed to you and me a God of absolutely unconditional love.  Your answer needs to reflect a God whom the prophet Isaiah describes as a mother who could never ever forget, ignore, or stop loving her child.  And when you have that Jesus in mind, then you are indeed in a position to fruitfully ask the question ‘What would Jesus do’  in the next five minutes, the next hour, the coming week?”

The Chancel Choir will be singing a beautiful early American hymn “The Lone Wild Bird” during our prelude. Please pay special attention to the new hymn that the choir will be leading us in “Kyrie Eleison” they will be using chimes as well as we learn this hymn together. During the Listening for the word in Music after Pastor Chuck’s sermon, the Choir will lead us in a musical offering chosen to prepare our hearts for the Lord’s Table. Finally the Choir will be singing a rousing version of “God Be With You” as our postlude!   Join us in worship!
And do remember that there is an adult Bible study which meets at 9:30 am in the Education Wing, Rm. 210.
