06/19/2016 – 5th Sunday After Pentecost / Fathers Day

Overwhelmed by Love

June 19, 2016
This Sunday we continue our study of the stories of Jesus as presented in the gospel of Luke with the story of the woman who washed Jesus’ feet with her tears.  As always, we’ll ask what it is that the gospel writer (and the Holy Spirit) want us to learn from sharing this story.   We’ll celebrate our fathers in the faith and ask what the gospel lesson has to say to those of us called to be parents in the faith.
Our music for Sunday will include the  beautiful Appalachian folk hymn “I See The Morning Breakin'” This was chosen as a remembrance for the victims of the Orlando tragedy from last week. Our song of Commitment is the powerful African American spiritual “Lord, I want to be a Christian” The verse “Lord, I want to be more loving in-a my heart…” is our response to the overwhelming love that we witness in the gospel.
