06/26/2016 – 6th Sunday After Pentecost

Tough Teachings

June 26, 2016

This Sunday we continue our study of the stories of Jesus as presented in the gospel of Luke.  This Sunday we read Luke 9:57-62, one of the more difficult passages of scripture to understand, including the line:

“No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
This Sunday we will be blessed with the Congolese Choir as they sing a hymn in French. We will also be singing a new piece that the Chancel Choir introduced us to a few weeks ago “O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go” The words are from the original hymn and the music was written recently by Seattle Composer Phillip Peterson. Our Song of Commitment is  “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.”  One phrase of the hymn echos Jesus’ words in our scripture for the day:  ” I have decided  to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.”
We pray the service we’ve planned will bring us all closer to Jesus and the path to which he calls us.
