07/31/2016 – 11th Sunday After Pentecost

“Freedom and Abundance”

Luke 12:13-21
July 31, 2016
Our text this week exemplifies a fundamental Jewish perspective on blessings and material things.  We will explore that teaching and contrast it with the “prosperity theology” that has become very popular in parts of the American church.  Rev. Barbara will provide an alternate translation of Luke 12:20 which may offer additional insight.
This Sunday as we explore the idea of material possessions and  how our lives intersect with them, we will be singing an early American Hymn – written by the Shaker community. “‘Tis the Gift to be Simple” has as it’s opening line, “‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free…”   Our Congolese Style Choir will also sing.  We look forward to singing our praise and prayer with you this Sunday.
