10/23/2016 – 23rd Sunday After Pentecost

“Watch Where You Look”

Luke 18: 9-14
October 23 , 2016
This week we will take a close look at the story of the tax collector and the Pharisee, asking ourselves what Jesus meant to teach us in the telling of this story. The Chancel Choir will be singing a beautifully expressive anthem called “Be Merciful Unto Me, O God” The text is based on Psalm 57. The music was written by L. Stanley Glarum a Pacific Northwest Composer born in Portland, who wrote over 200 choral works in his lifetime. His use of dissonance and cadences are rooted in the traditions of choral music and also evoke a sense of the Pacific Northwest with its colorful autumn season and gray winter.  The Congolese Style Choir will be back with a song of praise and thanksgiving.  Don’t miss it!
