10/30/2016 – 24th Sunday After Pentecost

“To Everything There is a Season”

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8,11
October 30 , 2016
This Sunday we will meditate upon the passage of scripture from Ecclesiastes that speaks about there being a “season” for everything. The Chancel choir will be singing a version of the song “Turn, Turn, Turn” made popular by the Byrds (but written by Pete Seeger). The lyrics to this song quote Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, making them the only American top forty hit with 5000 year old lyrics. The Congregation will also be singing the classic hymn “For All the Saints” as we celebrate All Saints Day, remembering those we have lost in the past four years.  During the candle lighting this week the chancel choir will be leading us in a Taize song, where the same music and words are repeated, creating sacred space for reflection and meditation. The congregation is invited to sing or to pray in silence during this time.
