This week's community joys and concerns from July 9, 2023

Among our Joys:

We celebrate our four youth who will be attending our Region's camp this week at Camp Gwinwood in Lacey! I am delighted to share that I will also be there this week as a counselor! Please keep us all in our prayers for a week of community, spiritual growth, and of course, lots of fun!-

Among our concerns, we continue praying for:

  • We continue to pray for Cassie's grandmother Tali Cabaong

  • Dawn Fredricks' daughter, Holly

  • Margo Christiansen

  • Pat McDaniel

  • Mel Peabody's partner, Bear, as she settles into her new home

  • Rachel Morford

  • And for our homebound friends, Helen Bosley, Harry and Margaret Lobberegt, Jane Nelson, and Marylu and Joseph Mills.

  • We add to our prayers this week Jacob Clark and his family, on the news of the unexpected death of his younger brother, Joseph Clark, who died Thursday night from a seizure. We hold each of them with love and lift them to God's comfort and peace in this tender, painful moment as they grieve for Joseph.

Among our local and global community concerns:

  • We continue to pray for all in harm's ways in the midst of war and the threat of war around the world, including Ukraine, Syria, and Taiwan.

  • We continue to pray for the village on 6th and Orchard, for those living there, for those in need of shelter and community around the city, and for the staff, volunteers, and all who have a hand in caring for the most vulnerable among our own community in the Tacoma area.

  • We lift up our Global Ministries partners, this week in South Africa.

  • And last but not least, we lift up Camp Gwinwood on the news this past week that the main dining lodge has sadly burned down. We are grateful that no one was hurt, but mindful of the challenges this presents for the camp staff as they prepare to host us this week and the sadness many are feeling at the loss of this iconic hallmark of camp and all the memories formed there. Please pray for Camp Gwinwood, of which this congregation shares in ownership with several other Disciples churches in the area, and for all those who will have a hand in rebuilding this important structure for the blessing of camp to extend for generations to come.
