Updates for the Community

Updated: Oct 30, 2022

Dear friends,

There are many exciting things on the horizon at FCC Tacoma and we need your help! Please see each announcement below and let us know if you're able to help.

Gift Baskets for new Heron LIHI Apartment Residents

Our ministry partners at the Low Income Housing Institute have asked for our help. As you may have heard, LIHI has recently acquired The Heron Apartments at 1625 E. 32nd St. with plans to convert it's 81-unit capacity into low income living. Our congregation has been asked to help create 50 'welcome home' gift baskets for their new residents as they move in in the coming months. This Sunday, watch for a station in the sanctuary to learn more about how to help with this effort, including a donation list and ways to donate to the cause online.

Making Prayer Tabs for All Saints' Day

On Sunday, November 6th, we will celebrate All Saints' Day, a day to remember and give God thanks for the loved ones in our community who have died in the past year. Artist-in-residence, Torie Fields has a beautiful design for Advent which will incorporate some of the names of loved ones we lift up on All Saints' Day. This Sunday during worship, you'll be invited to write names of loved ones or draw an image resembling those you are grieving which will be displayed in the sanctuary for All Saints' Day, and again, in a new form, throughout the season of Advent in a few weeks. Torie has a beautiful concept in store and I can't wait to see it come to life!

Items needed at Tiny House Village on 6th and Orchard

Our friends at the village could use donations of the following items. You can bring items on Sunday morning, or at any time during the week to the church office, or to the village office. Thank you for your continued support of this vital ministry in the community.

  • Tampons

  • Pads

  • Toilet paper

  • Facial tissue

  • Paper plates

  • Laundry detergent

  • Dining utensils

  • Cooking utensils

With love,

Pastor Doug

Among our Joys

We congratulate our friend Mark Fry who was recognized at last Sunday's congregational meeting with the inaugural award of FCC Tacoma Joyful Steward 2022. Mark is a hardworking volunteer at the church whose faith is put into action on the regular at the church. From tidying up the campus grounds to helping set up chairs to walking and entertaining our church dogs, Mark is always there ready to help with a smile on his face. He exemplifies what it means to be a steward of God's resources with joy and grace. We love you, Mark, and we thank you for all you do!

Among our Concerns

We lift up:

  • Charlene Housman

  • Steven Lynd

  • Rose Filgo, sister of Bill McDaniel who is battling cancer

  • September Petersen

  • Bear, Mel Peabody's partner

  • Rachel Morford, daughter of Mary Morford

  • We pray for our homebound friends, Helen Bosley, Harry and Margaret Lobberegt, Jane Nelson, Marylu and Joseph Mills and Jim and Kay Thompson.

Among our local and global community concerns:

  • For those living at the village on 6th and Orchard and in many shelters in our region.

  • We pray for God's children around the world, for those fleeing violence, for those enduring disenfranchisement, for those in need of hope.

  • Lastly, please remember in our prayers our Global Ministries partners, this week in Guatemala.
