Save the date: "Celebrating 6th and Orchard Block Party"

Updated: Aug 2, 2022

Dear friends,

I am pleased to announce an exciting upcoming event being organized by our three communities on 6th and Orchard, FOR these wonderful communities; the residents and staff at the tiny house village, our artists and teachers who are part of the Center for Spirituality & the Arts, and of course, the congregation and friends of FCC Tacoma!

Help spread the word and be sure to join use in the afternoon on Sunday, August 21th from 2-5pm at the church. There will be live music, games, food, a community mural project, and a chance for us to simply celebrate the community God is forming on our corner at 6th and Orchard. Children, friends, dogs are welcome. Come one, come all!

An another exciting note, I am pleased to share the results of our carpet color combination for the sanctuary and narthex. The winner was option 'A' which you

can see below. We are grateful for the team at Great Floors who will help us install the new carpet the last week of August. Since the chairs will take a little longer to arrive, we will have plenty of seating in the meantime as we work on altering the pews and constructing new decorative pillars and prayer station tables with the remaining lumber.

I want to thank all who have helped us move the project along, including our Board, the Executive Committee, Cassie Tripp, and the people involved with picking a variety of great color combos for us to vote from. I can't wait for the creative worship this new configuration will allow us to explore, and for all the new opportunities it'll create for sharing our passion for the arts and justice with our beloved community.

See you Sunday!

With love,

Pastor Doug

Among our Joys

  • We celebrate with our own Florette Ebengho who is joining in marriage with Tony Kandyinda tomorrow afternoon.

Among our Concerns

  • September Petersen, who is battling a resurgence of cancer.

  • Laura Richhtol, recovering from a medical procedure

  • Charlene Housman

  • Steve Johnson

  • Bear, Melanie Peabody's partner

  • Daniel Davis, friend of Susan Pearson

  • Rachel Morford, daughter of Mary Morford

  • We pray for our homebound friends, Helen Bosley, Elaine Jonson, Harry and Margaret Lobberegt, Jane Nelson, Marylu and Joseph Mills and Jim and Kay Thompson.

Among our local and global community concerns:

  • We pray for the city of Tacoma as we undergo this current election season. We pray that more will come to consider their own part, as individuals, and as a community, as each of us discern the issues on the ballot, representatives, and matters of justice. Those who are able to vote, vote.

  • We lift up all in Ukraine and others in harm's way, and for refugees throughout the world seeking safety.

  • We pray for all who are living currently at the village on 6th and Orchard; pray for peace in the midst of the many circumstances in which those experiencing houselessness endure. We also pray for a renewed sense of urgency in our city, neighborhood, and congregation in our work to secure housing as a right for all human beings.

  • This week, we lift up our Global Ministries partners in the United Kingdom.
